SF6 Gas Insulated Systems (SIGs) comprise a set of facilities and equipment of major importance in the electrical sector worldwide. With the objective of maintaining the operational reliability of these assets, a non-invasive and predictive diagnostic tool was introduced, capable of identifying defects and offering information for the decision-making of maintenance managers.
The acoustic methodology in the diagnosis of GIS had its development based on laboratory simulations that looked for the characterization of parameters and standards referring to the main types of defects found in this type of installation. Subsequently, the field analysis consolidated the methodology as a diagnostic tool of easy application and high reliability.
With the satisfactory results of the acoustic methodology in power transformers and in SIGs, new studies are being carried out to enable its application in other assets such as Instrument Transformers.
