Accuracy tests of high current (800A) energy meters

Introduction

High current energy meters may be directly connected to systems in which the load current may reach values of up to 800 Amperes (A), discarding thus the need of external current transformers. Furthermore, they incorporate mechanisms of commercial and technical loss reduction.

The accuracy tests of this type of equipment are performed since 2000 by the Electrical Energy Measurement Laboratory (LabMed), located in the Fundão Unit. LabMed has a three-phase bench, specific for the calibration of this type of meters, which are able to generate currents of up to 1000 A, synchronized with the voltages.

The main clients of these tests are the manufacturers of high current energy meters.
