Refrigeration Laboratory

Introduction

Implemented by Cepel in 1984, the Refrigeration Laboratory (MA7) is equipped to evaluate the performance of refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, in compliance with the Brazilian Labeling Program (PBE) and the National Program for the Conservation of Electric Energy (Procel). It is located in the Fundão Unit.

The laboratory offers resources for the development of the projects of the research line "Energy Efficiency".

From the tests carried out in the MA7, the energy efficiency information contained in the Procel Seal and the National Energy Conservation Label (Ence), are displayed in the products submitted to the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) by the manufacturers.

The experience accumulated by the laboratory, with the provision of services and support to research, accredited it to participate in the elaboration of technical procedures and standards. In addition, it maintains an interlaboratory comparison program with national and international institutions, functioning as a reference unit for other laboratories in the sector.

The MA7 has six climate chambers for testing refrigerators and freezers and a calibrated calorimeter for air conditioner testing. It has the capacity to evaluate refrigerators of 127-220V and air conditioners of up to 60,000 BTU / h single-phase 127V / 220V and three-phase 220V / 380V.

Accredited by Inmetro, the MA7 is able to perform tests on refrigerators and air conditioners, such as:

 

Refrigerators

• ranking;
• energy consumption;
• determination of energy efficiency.


Air conditioners

• determination of cooling capacity;
• determination of energy efficiency.
